So, you're probably thinking...
Is persuasion something I really need to master & isn't it manipulative, why would I want to master something like that?
The thing is...
Persuasion is probably the most positive & rewarding skill you could ever master in your entire life! (Big claim I know)
Why you ask?!
Well, first of all the highest earners in the world are the most persuasive people. But that's not why you need to master it, there's actually a less material & more beneficial & more rewarding reason that you need to be able to move & persuade people.
Are you ready for this?...
See, you may think that persuading people is about manipulating them into doing things for you, for your own benefit & gain & if I'm honest with you, that's the furthest thing from the truth!
Persuading people is all about getting them to do things for themselves & getting them to take action on the hard decisions they know they need to take action on, in order for them to better their own lives. And yes there is the whole argument of people abusing their persuasive powers, but that's not what you're here to do, in fact it's the complete opposite.
The thing is...
Have you ever had a close friend or family member that you really cared about, come to you with a problem, or for some advice & you genuinely had their best interests at heart, so what do you do?...
You give them your honest advice & tell them what you would do if you were in their position, & they take your advice & take action on it & it benefits them in the long run, how rewarding is that when that happens?
See, what I mean? That's you persuading your loved ones to take the right kind of action to better their lives. The use of persuasion can help you influence people in a positive way, even when someone is scared to take action on something they know will benefit them, it's our job as professionals to convince & motivate them to take the right kind of action through persuasion.
What We Were Never Told...
People really underestimate the power of words & especially the power of words backed by positive & influential energy. When we hear words that induce feelings of fear or excitement, we are more likely to take action. But, if those same words were spoken without emotion they fall on deaf ears, and the person we're trying to help or who really needs our help will never be motivated to do what they need to, in order to change their life drastically.
Research has shown that persuasive words can cause a person's heart rate to increase, their breathing to become more shallow, and their body temperature to rise—all signs that they have been influenced by the speaker’s words.
You've Definitely Done This Before...
As parents, partners, leaders, friends & family members we all have to, at some point persuade our kids, partners, team & friends to make their bed, hit target so they can achieve their bonuses, end the toxic relationship that doesn't serve them & so on...
And most importantly if you are a business owner, you need to persuade your team to buy into the companies vision in order for the company to grow, for the team to earn more so they can support their families & to best serve the companies customers at the highest level possible.
Even in a sales scenario, when someone really wants to buy your product, they know it solves the problem they are having & they will benefit from it more than the money they are holding onto, we need to be able to persuade our clients to exchange their money for the product, because obviously you need to cover costs as you won't be able to help people because there would be no business, but more importantly so you can get your product into their hands so they can really benefit from it & solve their problems.
So, What It All Boils Down To...
In order to persuade people effectively & consistently so that we can help more people & produce consistent results, you don't do it by luck, every time you persuade someone effectively, it always boils down to the same thing & that is...
A FRAMEWORK!
Have you heard the saying... 'Success Leaves Clues'
You see a framework is a system you can replicate every time you need to persuade & motivate people, & the best public speakers, world leaders & professionals understand this & all have successful frameworks that produce consistent & predictable results that they use to inspire & motivate people.
Also, one of the most important elements of persuasion is confidence. When presenting your ideas, make sure you are confident in the words you use & you consciously manage your body language and gestures so that you can inspire those around you. This will give your audience a sense of security, allowing them to accept what you have to say without questioning it. Additionally, when presenting your ideas confidently, it shows that you believe in them wholeheartedly which will make others more likely to follow suit.
So, that's why it's important you master the art & the framework of persuasion, so you can, educate, inspire & motivate people to take the right kind of action!
